Aviation Training 101: 4 Helpful Tips For Getting The Most Out Of Your Classes

Barry Myers

Aviation training is essential for anyone who wishes to become a pilot. Even if you do not plan to fly professionally, aviation training is necessary. Luckily, it isn't difficult to find classes and courses. However, aviation scholarships may require better grades, test scores, and performances. Luckily, you can ensure that your training goes well by following these four tips:

1. Minimize Distractions

This might sound like a no-brainer, but it is incredibly important that you minimize distractions during your class time. This will ensure that you fully absorb all of the material and lessons given to you. So turn off your phone, do not talk to your classmates, and pay attention to the instructor. If you are still having trouble, do not be afraid to speak up. Your instructor can help by offering one-on-one instruction. If there are others distracting you, your instructor can switch seats so that you are in a quieter location.

2. Stay Organized

Another helpful tip is to stay organized. While your papers and classwork should always be organized, that isn't the only thing that should be organized, neat, and clean. Your cockpit should also be organized – as this will make it easier to use. So before you take off, make sure you spend a few minutes organizing your cockpit. Ensure that all of your items are in their designated place. This will make flying much easier, whether in a simulation or in the air.

3. Study At Home

You should also be studying at home. Homework will help, but it will only do so much. After all, homework cannot teach you the actual mechanics of flying. So if you can, invest in a simulation that you can use at home. Many of these simulations can be used right on your computer and they will help you learn more about flying.

4. Schedule Classes Smartly

Finally, make sure that you schedule your classes smartly. While taking one course every few months might teach you the material, it won't do it well enough. To ensure you grasp all of the material taught to you, schedule all of your classes close together. While you do not need to complete all classes at the same time, you should ensure that you do not have any large gaps in your classes. This might sound simple and silly, but it is important to remember.

Knowing how to pilot a plane or helicopter is a very valuable skill. Taking classes will help teach you everything you need to know about flying. To ensure you maintain your scholarship, use these four tips to help you get the most out of your training and you'll be in the air in no time.
